How to be in tune with God

We understand that a piano’s original manufacturer designed it to play well and in tune. If a piano becomes broken or out of tune, it needs to be restored. God as our creator, values each person and has given a plan for us to be restored, or as the Word of God calls it . . . . redeemed.

A lot has been said and written about the Lord’s Prayer but this post on the Lord’s Prayer explains it as the answer to the question . . . “How to be in tune with God?”
Just as it is important for a piano to be restored and in tune, our lives need to be in tune with God. Jesus was the Son of God, and in his model prayer, he explains what a life restored and in tune with God looks like.

Matthew 6:9 this, then, is how you should pray:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one, for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen”

OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN: This prayer explains how we can become Children of God. This is the ultimate meaning of truly being in tune with God. This happens when you experience a new birth. (John 3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”) God is God to everybody, but He is father to the believer, those in covenant relationship with Him through the shed blood of Jesus. God is the God of the whole world, but He is father only to everyone who is born again of the Spirit of God and the Word.
Then we will be in tune with our Father in heaven

HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME: Those in tune with God will live to honor his name and reputation. Those who dishonor or abuse His name are not in tune.

YOUR KINGDOM COME, YOUR WILL BE DONE: These two thoughts form a unison, and the necessity that if one is true, the other must be true also. God’s kingdom is only realized as his will is done. God’s kingdom cannot be real in our life if you are not willing to find and do His will. Find and do the Father’s will, then you will be in tune with God. The heart desire of Jesus expressed in this prayer is that we come to know and trust the will of our heavenly Father just as he did

ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN: Can you imagine how sad a master piano craftsman would be to find one of his fine creations, with his name embossed on it, sitting around in a broken out of tune condition? If you track down all the hurt, sorrow, pain, destruction and death we see or know about here on earth, it is the result of sin. The sin and death we have to face here on earth was never God’s original design or plan. It began and continues because of the first sin from Adam and Eve. It has affected each of us. Each of us were born in a condition separated from God. It is because of this condition; we do things that we know are not God’s will. Before things can get better, we have to acknowledge our true condition, that we are broken and out of tune with God’s will. We have not obeyed God’s will in our personal lives. I may not be able to change other people who do wrong or harmful things, but I can ask God to change my heart to stop sinning and do the will of God.
The important step of getting in tune with God is called repentance. Just as a piano will never become “in tune” unless something changes, repentance is the change that takes place in our heart. Jesus Christ came to this earth from heaven as God’s only son, to restore us back to the Father. He willingly laid his life down in death to take the punishment for sin, overcoming death. Jesus said, “whoever would repent and believe in him would have eternal life. When you repent and believe, you are letting heaven come into your heart, becoming restored and in tune with God.

GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD: In Exodus 16: 4 God tells Moses that each morning bread will rain down from heaven to feed the children of Israel who are hungry. They are to only collect as much bread as they need for that day and keep none of it for the next day. This is the daily bread Jesus is referring to. God can and will meet your daily needs.

I believe the real meaning of this verse is that we must always rely on God to provide for us. As we grow spiritually, we do not want to become independent and no longer need God to provide for us. This would be like a person’s life going out of tune again. As we grow closer to God, we actually need him more than ever. God has provided his Word, or the Bible to be our daily bread. Read and meditate on it every day to keep your life in tune.

AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE ALSO HAVE FORGIVEN OUR DEBTORS: Have you ever had someone wrong you and you felt they owed you something to correct the offense, even if it was just an apology. This is the kind of debt Jesus was referring to. Simply put, if we want our debt to God to be canceled, which we could not pay, God is expecting us in the same way to cancel the debt or wrongs others have done to us. God is about forgiveness and unforgiveness puts us out of tune with God’s will. This does not exempt a person from being held responsible to God on the day of judgement, but it sets our heart free from becoming bitter. Bitterness is being out of tune and full of disharmony.

AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION BUT DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE: Not only can God set me free from my wrongs and sin, but from my nature that became corrupted. We are asking God to help us, because we can easily be tricked or deceived by the evil one to start going our own way again, or do things we know are wrong, or things that would hurt others. We find this battle can even come from within, from something broken in our heart. It is called selfishness. It is like a piano with a cracked soundboard or bridges, it will not stay in tune. The devil will use the sinful nature we were born with to lead us away from God. God has provisions to fi the deepest nature of our heart that was broken by sin. God wants to purify our hearts from being self-centered, by being filled with His Holy ‘spirit, and set free our delivered from the evil one. We are asking God to rescue us and set us free from the sinful nature.

FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM AND THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER. AMEN: We are telling God that we will not forget that everything belongs to Him. He is in control of Heaven and Earth, He has the power to have mercy on us, deliver us, and restore us. he deserves all of the praise or recognition, forever.

So now that you know what the Lord’s Prayer means, pray the prayer from your heart, verse by verse. I believe God, your heavenly Father would like to hear from you. He can restore you and put your heart in tune with Him.
